European regulators will begin reviewing the <b>Drug</b>’s safety profile this week and are expected to make a decision on the fate of the medication by September 23. The <b>Drug</b> remains on the market in the U.S. despite concerns raised at a recent Food and <b>Drug</b> Administration ( FDA ) advisory panel meeting, in which it was discussed whether to remove the <b>Drug</b> from the American market because of increased cardiovascular risks . The board ultimately voted to keep the <b>Drug</b> in some form. You can’t call it a vote of confidence. If anything, the approval will alert physicians to concerns that the <b>Drug</b> puts people at greater risk of heart attacks and strokes , according to some studies. This will likely result in fewer prescriptions written for the Type 2 diabetes <b>Drug</b>, which brought in $1 billion in sales last year with more than 2 million prescriptions filled. The American Diabetes Association voted to unanimously advise that GlaxoSmithKline ’s blockbuster <b>Drug</b> not be used, and a majority of the FDA panel – 21 out of 33 members – say they believe Avandia puts users at greater risk of cardiovascular problems. But only 12 of the 33 members actually voted to keep the <b>Drug</b> out of the market.
